Three militants, two soldiers killed in Kupwara encounters: Army

Srinagar: Army on Saturday claimed to have killed three ‘militants’ in two separate encounters in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district. It claimed that a trooper also lost his life in one of the operations.

The operations took place at Mooldara and Tanghdar forests following the inputs that about 5 militants successfully infiltrated into Kashmir valley.

Two Army soldiers were injured and were immediately airlifted to army’s 92 base hospital here in Srinagar for treatment.

General Officer Commanding (GOC) 28 Div, Lt Gen Lalit Panday said that army has launched massive searches in many parts of the Kupwara forests following the recent rise in infiltrations from across the border.

He said that over 350 militants were waiting at the launching pads across the Line of Control (LoC) to sneak into Kashmir. “But we are ready and appropriate security measures are in place to foil any such attempt,” he added.
