SRINAGAR: Shutdown was observed in Pulwama town of southern Kashmir, about 50 kilometres from Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar, on fifth consecutive day Monday.

The shutdown was called by a group of youth who aspire to erect a memorial for slain pro-freedom rebels at Shaheed Park (Martyr’s park), against the wishes of police and civil administration of the disputed state.

Shops and business establishment remained shut in the town and transport was off the roads.

Pertinently, several youth were detained by police during nocturnal raids in Chatapora area of Pulwama.
