SRINAGAR: An inter-departmental cricket tournament concluded at Central University of Kashmir with Department of Convergent Journalism declared as winner after it defeated Department of Law by four wickets in the final match played on Wednesday.
Department of Law won the toss and decided to bat first, scoring 146 runs in the twenty-over match. Department of Convergent Journalism chased the target in 19.2 overs, however, with difficulty at first.
Arzaan and Waris of the law department managed a partnership of 55 runs with Arzaan being the highest scorer of the team with 33 runs. Khursheed Parray of journalism department gave his team a crucial breakthrough by breaking their partnership.
Journalism department lost two crucial wickets earlier in their innings at a score of just nine runs. The team could not do well in first six overs, putting it under pressure.
However, the game gained momentum with 60-run partnership by Khurshid Ahanger and Wasaf Jeelani. Amjad Abbas later scored 34 runs in just eight balls. He was also declared man of the match for his all-round performance. The team called his performance a ‘turning point’ of the game.
Pertinently, journalism department had lost the first match of the tournament played with the law department.
Students Bar Association of the University organized the twenty-20 cricket tournament that began earlier this month based on double knockout system. Eight teams, representing different departments of the University, participated in the tournament.
