Protest, clashes grip Srinagar locality over desecration of Quran

SRINAGAR: Tension gripped Ellahi Bagh locality of Buchpora in outskirts of Srinagar on Sunday after torn pages of Holy Quran were found on road last evening.

According to locals, the pages were found all around between Ellahi Bagh grid station and Rangpora locality. They came into notice late evening leading to instant protest in the area.

Protesters staged a peaceful demonstration today morning demanding identification and punishment to culprits responsible for ‘desecration’ of the holy book.

However, situation turned hostile later today as clashes erupted between protesters and security force personnel. Hundreds of youth resorted to stone pelting while security forces responded back with teargas shelling.

Protesters also blocked the 90 feet road in Buchpora and another key road in Nowshera locality.
