SRINAGAR: Large number of people – beyond estimation – reached Tral town of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday to pay tributes to slain top militant commander Burhan Wani who was killed in an encounter yesterday.
Around 20 thousand mourners assembly at Shariefabad area of Tral this morning to participate in Burhan’s funeral. Many more could not reach the venue due to strict restrictions around the town.
However, later in the day, large number of mourners – apparently lakhs in number – reached the venue and funerals-in-absentia were offered multiple times. Reports said around ten armed militants also joined the funerals and fired bullets in air to salute the slain militant commander.
The mourners earlier lined up to take the last glimpse of the slain militant, before his body was buried.
Authorities imposed curfew-like restrictions in entire Pulwama district, its adjoining districts and parts of Srinagar city. Police personnel were deployed at various main roads leading towards Tral. One such barrier was placed near Pampore on the outskirts of Srinagar city.
