SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday claimed to have arrested a woman for murdering her husband with the help of a man with whom she had an extramarital affair.
Investigation has revealed that the man caught hold of her husband and sat on his chest when he was asleep, while the woman strangulated his neck until he breathed his last.
The incident happened in Haijn area of north Kashmir the intervening night of July 2 and 3, which was observed as ‘Shab-e-Qadr’ – believed by Muslims to be the most sacred night of the lunar year.
According to a statement issued by police, the woman, whom it identified as Zamrooda Begum, had an ‘illegal relationship’ with Showkat Ahmad Bhat. The two were in contact for many years and together hatched the conspiracy to kill her husband Fayaz Ahmad Dar.
The investigation in the case was started after police recovered the body of the deceased from a bathroom of his house yesterday. “The investigation revealed that the deceased had doubts on her wife of having illegal relationship with Showkat… due to which some differences had developed in their wedlock,” the police said.
The police said they could crack the case after the woman said she did not possess a mobile phone, while her teenage children said she had a phone, which she was using “covertly”.
The police called the suspect Showkat for questioning. “During questioning he disclosed that he had illegal affairs with the wife of the deceased and had grown closer to her during past few years,” the police said.
The duo hatched a criminal conspiracy to kill Fayaz and the woman called Showkat to her house at nighttime, letting her come in through a window. They went to Fayaz’s room and killed him.
