Acclaimed scientist Professor Talat Ahmad has been re-appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University for next three years apparently for the work done by him for the progress and development of the University.
According to an official statement, the decision was approved by the Chancellor of Jammu and Kashmir Universities and Governor of the State – Narinder Nath Vohra – in consultation with Pro Chancellor of the universities and Chief Minister of the State – Omar Abdullah.
Prof Ahmad was appointed the Vice Chancellor of the University in June 2011. “Professor Ahmad has worked hard for the progress and development of the University and has brought it on the national and international scene”, the official statement mentioned.
Pertinently, Prof Ahmad is an internationally reputed scientist who has been honoured with several prestigious awards and is fellow of various major national academies of science. Prof Talat has done his Masters in Geology from the reputed Aligarh Muslim University, M. Phil (in Ore Petrology-Geochemistry) and Doctorate (in the field of Igneous Petrology-Geochemistry) from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
He began his career as a Jr. Geologist with the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and, subsequently, worked at the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehra Dun, as a Scientist for over nineteen years (1984-2003). Before joining as Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University, he had been serving as Professor at the Department of Geology, University of Delhi, since October 2003.
