4 Kashmiri girls detained at Delhi airport for having ‘bomb’ label on luggage

SRINAGAR: Four Kashmiri female medical students were detained at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Friday after security found ‘bomb’ written on the luggage of one of the travellers.

Two of the girls were later released but two of them continued to remain under detention.

The group of students was on way to Srinagar, after travelling from Dhaka in Bangladesh to Kolkata and then to Delhi, parents of two of the girls said.

“Their luggage was checked and cleared at all the airports,” the parents said. “But when they reached Delhi Airport today morning to board their flight at 12.45 pm, police detained all four. Thereafter they released two and detained two among them,” they said.

They said that a bag of one of the girls had a label ‘bomb’ written on it, and the police detained them on this pretext.

“The airport authorities did not inform us about them till yet. We fear for their safety,” the parents said.

A top police official said that the issue had been taken up with Delhi police for the release of the two girls.
