SRINAGAR: A teenage boy was killed and two others were injured after an avalanche struck forest area of Machhil in northern Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday morning.
A police officer was quoted as having said that the avalanche hit Chuntiwari Balla area of Machhil in the frontier district resulting in on-spot death of a 15-year-old boy while as two others suffered injuries.
After the news spread in the area, local residents and police rushed to the spot and retrieved the body, the official said.
The injured boys were immediately taken to Machhil hospital where from they were referred to sub-district hospital Kupwara for further treatment.
The incident occurred when the three teenagers (Darsgah students) were on their way towards Madrassa Taleem-ul-Quran in the area, the officer said.
The officer identified the deceased as Mehrajudin Khan (15) son of Bashir Ahmad of Katwara Machil and the injured have been identified as Javid Ahmad Khan (14) son of Younis Khan of Khali Balla, Machil and Abdul Rashid Mir (14) son of Abdul Rehman of Chuntiwari Balla, Machhil.
Pertinently, the local administration had issued an avalanche warning for Machhal sector as well as Chokibal-Tangdhar, Keran sector, Gurez sector, and Naugam-Kaiya in the frontier district.
