Srinagar: The ruling National Conference on Tuesday called for a united political response against the attempt being made by the Indian Government to repeal Article 370 of the Indian Constitution that guarantees special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
An in official statement, the party spokesperson appealed to all the political parties in the State to “rise above petty political interests and come together in the struggle” to ensure that the State’s specials status and character is not diluted. The party made this appeal to all the parties that “claim to represent the aspirations of the people of the State”.
The party core group was also supposed to meet this morning to take stock of the situation in this regard.
“Article 370 is a commitment by Parliament of the India enshrined in the Constitution of India and any attempt to change the spirit or commitment of the nation will amount to betrayal of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and shall be resisted tooth and nail by the National Conference”, the party spokesperson maintained.
He said that the move would lead to anarchy in the State and in turn could lead to unrest in the entire State as it is shaped with “divisive, communal overtones”.
The spokesman of the party said that the statement of Dr. Jatinder Singh is apparently a policy statement of the BJP government as he is a Minister in the Prime Minister’s office and as such needs to be taken seriously.
