Mutton dealer arrested for selling meat of ‘dead’ animals in Kashmir

Srinagar: A mutton dealer in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly supplying meat of dead animals to the locals markets.

According to a Srinagar based news agency CNS, the Municipal Committee of Anantnag (MCA) caught the accused red-handed while slaughtering a dead sheep and also recovered scores of dead sheep inside a truck that was parked outside his house at Shirpora, Janglat Mandi, Anantnag.

There are apprehensions that the accused – Mehraj-u-Din Ganaie – frequently indulges in this act when some of the sheep die on way while being imported to the State. The MCA had received information about this whole-seller used to slaughter and sell the meat of the dead animals to mutton retailers rather than dumping them.

The accused was caught red-handed when a team of MCA raided his house. The truck parked outside his house, that carried dead sheep, was seized and the accused was handed over to police.

A police official confirmed the arrest saying that they were waiting for the report of MCA and CAPD department.
