Pulwama: South Kashmir’s Pulwama district reeled under curfew for the third consecutive day, Saturday, where clashes had erupted between protesters and government forces on Wednesday after the killing of a local militant Tawseef Ahmed Dar.
Reports said that as a precautionary measure curfew was extended upto Gangoo area on Saturday while people were not allowed to come out from their houses. To restrict the movement of the people, police and paramilitary troopers were deployed in strength while concertina wires and barricades were put in place at different parts of the town.
Locals of Dangarpora area of Pulwama claimed that police arrested two youth on Friday evening when they went out from their house. However, police denied the allegations.
A police official said that the situation remained peaceful throughout the day and no untoward incident was reported from any party of the district. He said that police did not arrest anyone from past three days and exercised maximum restraint while dealing with agitated and violent protesters. CNS
